eCommerce Continues To Grow: Cyber Monday

Whilst the overall world economy continues to stare at a relatively bleak picture, in the digital world things are unsurprisingly different. As Cyber Monday 2011 came and went comScore released statistics suggesting that online shoppers spent $1.25 billion on this day alone, trumping the previous best single days trading by a massive 21% – which just happened to be Cyber Monday 2010. In regards to the holiday shopping season to date sales are over the $15 billion mark, more than 15% up on the same period last year.
That’s the big picture and granted predominately a US one at that, but the figures are relevant non-the-less, what we’re seeing is that whilst bricks and mortar stores face difficult times, online stores comparatively have a lot to be positive about. The importance here for UK retailers is clear, the eCommerce world is a small place in terms of deliveries, it’s very much normal practice for a UK store to sell all over the world with the correct systems in place, ergo if US trading has a record day that’s something UK online stores should also be reaping the benefits of – and if you didn’t this year, then those figures should be encouragement enough to make sure you don’t miss out next year.
